Honestly, when you first see the official pictures of Althea's first eye palette, you'd think it wasn't anything remarkable. Still, I was able to get this on promo as a GWP during last year's 11.11 sale. Why, you ask? Well, it's expiring on 11. 2021. So while this has been out for a long time, I first cracked it open last lunar new year since I was thinking of using the red shade in this palette. I was then pleasantly surprised when I first swatched it out.
This is now my official 2021 palette.
The Sunrise Moonrise Palette is an 8-pan palette collaboration whose color story is, I think, supposed to be evocative of sunrise and moonrise. It's really not. It's actually a neutral palette with a little pink and purple.
Swatched above are the eight colors available with the first row swatched before the second. It has one matte (second shade), five shimmers and two glitters (third and fourth shade). If you look at the shades, the first five are on the neutral side and appropriate for daily use. The matte is perfect as a base. The sixth shade, or the second from the left of the bottom row is actually the brightest of the bunch, a bright pinkish red. Beside it is a lavender shimmer and the last to the right is a purple brown. All of them are pretty powdery, but they're very smooth. All but the two glitters can be easily applied with a brush, but that pink can get a bit patchy and last purple color actually turns into a brown when blended (as blue shimmer drifts out) so it becomes very night/glam at the office appropriate as well, with the proper blending. Three of the shimmers can also work as highlighters.
I still love using it since I can get a neutral brown, a pink and a purple look with this palette, especially when combining the last two shades. And since its powdery, it's easy to blend for a beginner like me. Just use an eye patch or powder the under eye before hand as it will move around.
Should you buy it? Not at the close expiration date. But do use it if you have it around.
