For a hot minute, the skincare world was buzzing with one word: probiotics. From serums to cleansers, brands everywhere were cashing in on the idea that good bacteria weren’t just good for your gut, but superb on your skin. Topical treatment. Nature supercharged.
And honestly? They weren’t wrong. I hopped on the trend out of curiosity and enjoyed it, but I didn't know how much I'd like it. Such that I ended up repurchasing, and even ended up trying set of 3 minis of the Illiyoon Probiotic Skin Barrier Cream, Essence, and Balm.
These weren’t flashy products. No over-the-top packaging, no overpowering scents, and definitely no virality. They never really got their moment like their sister barrier cream, which I do admit I haven't tried. But beneath those tiny white tubs and tubes was a formula that just worked for me.
Why Probiotics? Probiotics in skincare aim to balance the skin’s microbiome. When damaged, it often leads to increased sensitivity, redness, and breakouts. When used topically, probiotic ingredients can help strengthen the skin barrier, calm inflammation and redness, help retain moisture and improve resilience against environmental stressors.
So when my skin was going through one of those days: irritated and angry, I turned to the Illiyoon probiotic line and it was like a reset button for my skin. I actually used each product differently because of the texture differences:
Probiotic Skin Barrier Essence Drop: Light, hydrating, and soothing. Good for light irritation and maintenance. It had a watery to creamy texture that calmed my skin and left a layer of light moisture.
Probiotic Skin Barrier Cream: This was the workhorse. The undeniable star of my skincare routine on those days. Rich but not greasy, it soothed the burning and kept it down for the day
Probiotic Skin Barrier Cica Balm: My ultimate SOS product for extra terrible areas. I used it on those areas that were a bit drier especially around my nose. Lasted the lomgest since I used sparingly, but those with drier skin might have loved these.
Over time, my skin became less reactive, more balanced, and genuinely healthier. It felt like my skin could finally breathe again. Then I stopped using it. After, I found out that I would have to stop. Forever.
This is just my final goodbye to the line.
Hopefully, I'll say hello to something else.
