Bought the HARU HARU Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner last year because of the hype and the stunning packaging but didn't consistently use it because when I opened the bottle, it was 1. Fragranced 2. Stung my eyes.
Thus it sat on my desk until I found my skin to be dehydrated since it was my only hydrating toner on hand.
HARU HARU did release an unscented version but I had dehydrated skin an this giant 150ml bottle so I decided to use it up. Here are my thoughts:
Despite my hopes that there are some benefits to this because of the black rice ferment that's supposed to have skin care benefits, the main heavy hitter is glycerin (and betaine- edited). Mixed with other things, yes, but now that we're somehow moving away from HA, glycerin seems to be coming back as an old, unsung hero.
I used a generous amount (initially at night given the lavender scent), avoiding the eye area. It gives the skin a quick and long lasting burst of hydration even at first application with that mochi consistency. However, I've found that while I can layer it with other products easily, I can't use a second layer of it with itself since it just ends up being a sticky mess.
Once I got used to the scent, I began using it in the morning as well. I use this as a middle layer between a non-hydrating active/product and a moisturizer/heavier layer as a hydrator.
All in all, its a nice product for its price range (500-600 Php or around 10-12 USD for 150 ml) with possible long term benefits. It reminds me of a levelled up version of the Face Shop Ceramide toner.
I may repurchase the unscented version in a while since I like having a hydrating staple on hand but I have FOMO on possibly better choices so I guess I'll have to see.
All in all, I'd recommend this as a simple toner for those who don't want to spend on this step.
